After the first pass we worked on quite a few things. We started working on models for assets and characters. One major thing we worked on was the animatic. Our animatic was definetly the hardest part to put together. It is also clear we do need to work on it.
Other than the animatic we wanted to focus on asset building. There are a lot of major assets we need and also throughout. It was noted that in our animatic it's clear that the only place that has many details are only present in the house. With this in mind, before break we created a new hero asset list.
I basically created a list of assets in each scene that seemed important in some way. Whether it moved the story along or it was just a major part of the set. I already completed an interation of palm trees and have started working on the jacks. The jacks specifically are in a scene with the younger brother playing with them. With the items on this list specifically they are going to be done by next Friday before we all meet for class again.
The image above is what I am using as my reference for the jacks.
Other than the new hero assets, we have started adding to our full asset slist and going through that. The assets in yellow are like the lower tier hero assets. The assets in blue are the main and more important hero assets. Many of these assets are a lot easier than they sound.
Some assets like the other child models are going to be just blinn shapes from the base girl model. The cabinet is just the dresser but stretched out, things like that.
This is part of that list:
The pass was also an opportunity to start showing what we are using for aesthetics. Aelma found a wonderful and in-depth tutorial in Substance Painter for our textures. I won't go too in-depth because she knows more than I do about it.
I also worked on audio aethetics. I have my personal friend Nick Schell now on the team so help with musical score and production. They were going to be out of town during the pass so I threw together a short and, admittedly poorly produced, clip of music. Alema got some audio recordings of a potetnial narration that I used to base my music on.
The idea is to sort of make the music move along with the story as well as with the narration. I used Garageband to make it using a few premade instruments and sounds. I tried my best to do this. I can play a few instruments and read music, and I've produced music in the past but I am not a producer.
This is the demo:
We wanted to keep this week a lot less intense, especially since we just got back from break. We know what work we need to do, and we know how much time we have until the next pass. We are excited to be back so we are going to jump right back in!
See ya l8r
